Assistant Plant Manager

This position will watch over and organize the daily operations of the manufacturing plant. Oversee employees, production and efficiency, to make sure the plant is running smoothly, quickly, efficiently and safely. Oversee the entire manufacturing location. Maintain optimum operation by assigning workers, creating and keeping work and production schedules, hiring and training new employees, collecting and looking through data to find places of waste or places of improvement, monitor worker and plant safety, and production equipment to make sure that it stays in good working order. Work with Maintenance staff to repair or replace the equipment when needed. The Plant manager is the last line of defense for quality control when the item manufactured leaves the plant. They communicate with other departments or parts of the plant to ensure quality products and schedules are completed on time to meet delivery commitments.

  • JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in industrial engineering, business administration, Production Operations or related field of study.

    • 5 plus years plus plant manufacturing experience including plant management experience.

    • Experience with manufacturing processes and best practices in safety.

    • Strong understanding of manufacturing cost controls, inventory management, maintenance, HR Practices, quality functions and manufacturing best practices.

    • Ability to work in a hands-on environment. 

    JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

    • Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to speak with employees, other department managers and senior management.

    • Leadership Skills: Must be able to motivate employees to keep operations running smoothly.

    • Problem-Solving Skills: Must be able to quickly ascertain a situation and be decisive in solving it, such as identifying defects in the production line.

    • Time Management: Ability to handle production deadlines, shipping dates and more and must manage their time accordingly.

    • Ability to handle all aspects of the operations of a manufacturing plant. This includes hiring, training and motivating staff. Staff typically consists of production workers and supervisors of all floor departments.

    • Overseeing the plant staff, the Plant Manager will assist in development of manufacturing budgets and ensure operations are conducted according to financial budget guidelines.

    • Will train with Director of Operations to understand the processes and inner working of the plant.

    • Must be able to achieve required objective and goals by collaboratively working with all members of the management team.

    Production

    • Ensure the manufacturing of products or goods are produced efficiently, safely and meet the organization's quality standards. This involves developing and enforcing policies and procedures for production methods, quality and safety.

    • Find and implement solutions to continuously improve the production process, cut production costs and improve quality.

    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations

      LANGUAGE SKILLS

      Effectively communicate with fellow employees both verbally and written in the English language. Must be able to write in a professional/business manner.  Ability to effectively interpret and translate instructions to other employees in a professional and respectful manner.

      Being a plant manager has a crucial role in maintaining the standard and competitiveness of the plant. Having a sense of commitment, leadership and social skills is beneficial in aiming the position. The manager should be aware and conscious of the things and issues currently happening in the system. He/she should be logical and alert in case of emergency decisions. Gaining knowledge about every department is important in order to supervise and manage the whole system smoothly. Building social relationships and understanding within the community is helpful for effective and progressive plant management. The manager should prove and maintain his or her work ethics and professionalism in everything that he or she does.


Mattress Builder

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes the following, however, other duties may apply.)

  • Places mattress springs on mattress building table.

  • Attaches mattress components to springs and uses a fastener gun to bind the components.

  • Flips the mattress over and repeats previous step.

  • Temporarily attaches border for tape edge operator

  • Lifts bed and carries to tape-edge work station. Places mattress on stack of mattresses at tape-edge line.

  • Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner. Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Reports any safety issues to supervisor.

  • Monitors work for quality and sends mattress for re-work if needed.

  • Assists with other mattress supply, build and other plant functions as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Good eye/hand coordination

  • Ability to interpret and support standards, policies and procedures established by Paramount and Federal/State/Local agencies


Quilt Machine Operator

Operates a multi-needle quilting machine and other equipment in order to efficiently produce quilted mattress panels per quality and quantity requirements, and with the least amount of waste. The operation of machines includes such duties as material loading, pattern selections, and minor machine maintenance.

EESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes the following, however, other duties may apply.)

  • Loads/reloads fabric on quilting machine.

  • Loads/reloads polyurethane foam or fiber rolls onto quilting machine.

  • Loads/reloads thread, thread machine and bobbins.

  • Loads/reloads backing onto quilting machine.

  • Adjusts needle positioning and pattern as needed.

  • Measures and sets panel cutting blades, and adjusts panel cutting machine as needed.

  • Operates multi-needle quilting machine to produce quilted mattress panels. Monitors machine (visual and audio) and makes adjustments as needed in order to prevent skipping and/or creating scrap.

  • Measures and inspects finished panel. Repairs defective panels using a straight stitch sewing machine and/or other established processes.

  • Operates quilting machine and performs job tasks according to established safety and efficiency procedures. Performs routine maintenance on machine such as lubricating machinery.

  • Operates computer related to quilting function.

  • Maintains workstation in a neat, clean and orderly fashion, and performs job duties in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Documents transition lengths.

  • Walks to storage areas and returns with materials as needed.

  • Performs minor maintenance on machines as needed.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Good eye/hand coordination

  • Good organizational skills and detail orientated

  • Ability to interpret and support standards, policies and procedures established by Paramount and Federal/State/Local agencies

  • Basic mathematical skills

  • Basic ability to read/use a ruler, add/subtract and calculate fractions

 Tape Edger (Production)

Ensures quality standards are maintained. This is the final mattress assembly operation before packaging

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes the following, however, other duties may apply.)

  • Slides mattress to table.

  • Operates leg-clutch to stop and start sewing machine.

  • Feeds materials into sewing machine as the sewing machine is moved around mattress. Re-threads sewing machine as needed. Ensures quality standards are maintained.

  • Corrects any defective taping on mattresses.

  • Lifts or slides finished mattress onto take away conveyor.

  • Changes the needle and binding tape for the sewing machine as needed.

  • Maintains clean work area and follows proper safety procedures. Sweeps floors as needed.

  • Makes any necessary sewing machine adjustments and handles basic maintenance of machine such as lubrication.

  • Provides assistance in other areas of mattress building as requested.
